Help us plan the future of the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor
Metro invites you to attend a Maintenance Facility Site Open House and share your comments on the candidate sites selected for environmental review:
Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 10am – 12pm
Del Aire Park
12601 Isis Av
Hawthorne, CA 90250
Served by Gardena Transit Line 5 and Torrance Transit Line 8
The Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor Project Team is analyzing four sites for the development of a new maintenance facility. The operation of a new Light Rail Transit (LRT) line will require construction of a new maintenance facility to store, maintain, repair and clean light rail vehicles.
The four candidate sites are currently under a detailed environmental review in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). They are being compared and evaluated to determine which site(s) best serves the Crenshaw/LAX LRT line. Key issues being addressed include: displacement, relocation, employment changes, traffic access, noise and land use policies, all of which will be incorporated into an Environmental Assessment/Recirculated Draft Environmental Impact Report (EA/RDEIR). The four sites examined include one each in the cities of Los Angeles, Inglewood, Hawthorne, and Redondo Beach.
This EA/RDEIR focuses solely on the maintenance facility issues and is a supplement to the Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (Draft EIS/EIR) for the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor. The Draft EIS/EIR was released for public comment in September 2009 and received by the Metro Board of Directors in December 2009. The Metro Board will need to adopt a Locally Preferred Alternative site(s) in Winter 2011. This site(s) will be incorporated into the final environmental document.
